Florida Runs on Community Service

Florida’s veteran service organizations – including the VFW, American Legion and AMVETS –  and fraternal clubs – such as the Moose Association –  provide disaster relief, scholarships, youth programs, emergency assistance, and support for families in need every day.

Many of these organizations rely on charitable instant bingo to keep their doors open and continue their mission of service.

Florida’s charitable bingo laws have not kept pace with modern technology or existing court decisions. The Florida Service Coalition is working to modernize state law, provide clear guidance to charitable organizations, and ensure these community institutions can continue serving Floridians for generations to come.

Why This Matters

Charitable instant bingo helps support organizations that strengthen communities across Florida.

These funds help:

  • Respond to hurricanes and disasters
  • Support veterans experiencing hardship
  • Fund scholarships and youth leadership programs
  • Assist families facing emergencies
  • Maintain local posts and lodges that serve as gathering places for communities

No individual profits from these activities. Funds raised are reinvested directly into charitable missions and local community service.

Modernizing Florida Law

Florida law governing charitable instant bingo was written decades ago and does not adequately reflect current technology, including instant bingo dispensers, or existing case law.

Service organizations deserve clear rules that allow them to operate responsibly, transparently, and without fear of unintended legal consequences.

Modernizing Florida law means:

✓ Providing clarity
✓ Aligning statutes with current case law
✓ Protecting charitable fundraising
✓ Preserving community service organizations
✓ Ensuring accountability
